November 22, 1954 Middle School Counselor Married 1

Wow….Life in a nutshell; an interesting assignment!  After high school I got my AA at SRJC in two pieces.  It was punctuated by what turned into a 2+ year adventure in Hawaii that began with Linda Pera and Majel Richards!  For me, it included a year at University of Hawaii, backpacking, working in restaurants, playing at the beach, and meeting folks I still call my friends today.  It was a blast.

I came home to get my teaching credential (a dream since I was in Mr. Canevari’s 6th grade class at Rincon), and did so from Chico State in 1978 (the year Prop 13 passed, and teachers all over the state were getting laid off).  While visiting my sister in Menlo Park, I ran into one of my bartenders from Hawaii and returned to restaurant work.  There I met the sub caller from a local school, and she called me for a long term sub stint that has lasted 32 years.  I’ve taught art, 5th grade, 7th grade, electives (including sewing!) and have now been the school counselor for about 15 years.  I’ve loved the job since the day I started.

Somewhere along the way, I met my husband, an attorney in Menlo Park, and we’ve been married for 27 years.  We had a son (now 22), and together we’ve traveled the world; a highlight was a year spent in Florence, Italy!  We had lunch….for a year!

In addition to travel, I love the outdoors, working with my hands, dancing the jitterbug, and babies.

Hollis and I plan to return to Santa Rosa when we retire in about 2 years.  It’s possible I’ll help my sister sell real estate out in Oakmont.  I’m really looking forward to the reunion, and reconnecting with my roots.  Hope to see you there!

September 10, 1955 Medical editor; professional violinist www.comalliwrites.com Single 2

Hi!

I remember so many of you, being in awe of those with mathematical prowess, thinking what a great class we had and what a great time it was to be alive (the FIRST Earth Day!!).  I did all my really hard work my junior year so I could focus on music and friends my senior year at MHS.  I'm grateful to be back in touch.

My website (www.comalliwrites.com) tells about my career - I say there that I was a sonographer (ultrasound technologist) who became a radiologic transcriptionist and patient advocate who is becoming a medical coder. In medicine, I found something I liked almost as much as I like music....but I didn't start medicine until my 40s.

Music was my thing my whole life...still is! Soon I have a concert with www.santarosasymphony.com - we will be playing in the beautiful Green Music Center (gmc.sonoma.edu) at Sonoma State starting in September; we have our last concerts at Wells Fargo Center this May 12, 13, and 14.  My dad played string bass there, so it's a really important connection for me!

My mom and dad were educators - my mom taught at Roseland; my dad taught music and Spanish; every orchestral instrument could be found in our living room when my dad brought them home for me to try. My mom was a proud first-generation Italian-American; I learned Italian from listening to my grandmother and Spanish from my Dad. I began begging  for piano lessons at age 3; my parents gave in when I was 6.  Hearing my dad play in the Santa Rosa Symphony inspired me to study an orchestral instrument. I began viola at 13, and after studying at the San Francisco Conservatory and in Europe, won positions in the San Francisco Ballet Orchestra and the Oakland Symphony at age 19. I left viola in favor of the violin in 1989, when I successfully auditioned for a violin position with New York City Opera National Company. In 10 years of service to the Company, I was privileged to serve as concertmaster for the last four. We toured the US for 3-4 months a year...I've played opera in every state except Alaska. It was incredible to bring opera to audiences who had never heard it, and to play at our country's great universities and in small towns too. I feel I really know our States.

In the Bay Area I am concertmaster of Festival Opera and the Vallejo Symphony.  I play in the first violin sections of the Santa Rosa, Napa Valley, and Marin Symphonies. There are fewer and fewer places to play, though, as the economy has caused a lot of damage (Napa has suspended operations, for instance).  Sometimes I wonder if our grandchildren will get to go see a symphony or opera orchestra live at all.  :( I think (and neurologists think!) music improves the intellect and the heart connection of adults and kids.  I hope we can tune in to the power of live music and bring music back to schools.

I got married and had kids in my mid-20's; my son is a musician and artist whose amazing portfolio was accepted to the Boston Museum School of Fine Arts last year.  My daughter went to UCSC, then UCLA for a Master's in Public Health, has lived in New York working in public health since 2009, and starts medical school in Chicago this July.  I'm sorry to say their dad died when they were 11 and 13. My kids are my best friends in the world.

I enjoy kayaking, water aerobics, strength training, speaking Spanish, French, and Italian, dogs and cats, buddhist thought, and the New York Times crossword puzzle. My favorite places are Hawaii, Italy, and France.

My violin is a copy of "the Nightingale" Stradivarius, made in 1993 by noted Bay Area violinmaker Thomas Croen (www.croenini.com). It was first heard in public on the Vallejo Symphony's trip to Akashi, Japan, in November 1993.

I am still trying to establish my career. Patient advocacy for those with cancer, confusing medical problems, or in need of elder-care decisions for parents, is very satisfying. I love medical editing, and medical coding is proving to be fascinating. I will sit for my first coding credential this June.

Please be in touch! Thanks to Sue for putting our site together and my kind wishes to everyone. My email is comalliwrites@gmail.com.

February 07, 1954 Widowed 1
I left Santa Rosa in 1980 and moved to Los Angeles where I started working in the TV Industry for shows on ABC, FOX, Paramount Studios and more.  My daughter Jessie was born in 1993 and I continued working in the industry because most studios had daycare.  I also did some personal training through out that time.  It was a really fun time in my life, but as my parents starting aging it was time for me to move back to Santa Rosa and  take care of them.  So I moved back in 2007 with my daughter who just graduated from MHS and now goes to Humboldt State.  Both my parents have since passed away. Now I am living back in the home I grew up in with so many good memories.

June 10, 1954 Registered Nurse Married 1
It took me 4 years to finish my degree and 2 years of nursing school at the JC but I finally made it - moved to Las Vegas for a few years to work then moved to Los Angeles/San Fernando Valley and have been here ever since.
Spent most of my nursing career in Critical Care and Trauma nursing and when I burned out on that I started doing hospital bill auditing and have been doing that for the last 15 years.  Flexable, lucredive and allows me to keep using all my nursing knowledge without direct patient care.
I traveled alot, enjoyed being single and living the independent life but decided to get serious in my mid 30's.
I met my husband here and we have one daughter, the light of my life - talented and creative - she is always suprising us with her approach to life.
My life in a nut shell - I am happy, healthy and have enjoyed reading all your life stories - don't know if I can make the reunion but will try.
Thanks for making this site available.

November 29, 1954 Living the good life... Married 4
After graduating I attended SRJC for a year and a half until I met my future husband and then I quit. He was the best man and I was the maid of honor at a friends wedding. We were married 6 months later and have been married for 37 years. Steve is the love of my life! We have 4 wonderful, loving sons, 2 daughters-in-love and 4 beautiful grandchildren...(so far)  **Grand baby #5 on the way... :D

We have owned our own business since '78. My husband is a general contractor and real estate broker. Two of our sons are real estate agents under Steve and one of them works in our construction business. I was the primary bookkeeper for the business until our son took over a few years ago. I gladly handed that baton to him. (he's much better at it than I was)

We lived in the Windsor and Healdsburg area for many years until we relocated 8 years ago to Cottonwood. I love it here, but REALLY MISS THE OCEAN. We are 1/2 hour south of Redding. Steve and I attend Bethel Church in Redding and are the overseers of the greeters and first time visitors ministry. We also host a home group in our house.

I know I was born to be a grandma! There is nothing more satisfying than to hear your grandchildrens laughter and to hear them say how much they love you. I melt every time. My life is very blessed!  I am SO looking forward to seeing everyone at the reunion. It's been to long...

May 10, 1954 Business owner compliance-connect.com Single 2
After graduating I immediatly started working full time, by-passing college.  I married in 1978, eventually had two children, and divorced in 1998.  I have two beautiful daughters, one rambunctious grandson and four wonderful granddaughters (two blood and two step).

In 1988 I entered the wine business, working behind the scenes in the admin area.  I found my niche in the wine regulatory area, and in 2000 started my own business, consulting and offering services in wine complaince to existing and start-up wineries, and others that need licensing to be in the wine biz.  I do love what I do so will most likely be working until the regulatory books are pulled from my cold, dead, fingers.  Just kidding...

I split my time between Santa Rosa (where the office is) and Nevada City (where I have a home).  I rent a house from my mom that is in back of Montgomery High School, so every day I wake up looking across the fields to the school, thinking it really hasn't changed much in 40 years!

August 23, 1954 Retired Married 2
After graduating from MHS, I attended SRJC for 2 years. I achieved my AA Degree as well as the Business Department’s Two-Year Secretarial Program Completion certificate. During my second year at the JC, I was living in my own apartment as well as working part-time as a secretary. After the JC, I worked full time for several different businesses.

In 1983 I met and married my husband, Guy. We will be celebrating our 29th wedding anniversary in September. We have two sons, Nathan, born in 1985 and Darren, born in 1988. Neither one is married, but I am looking forward to them starting their families.

I was privileged to be a stay-at-home mom for 6 years before going back to work part-time in the mornings when Darren started kindergarten. I continued to work part-time. For the past 25+ years, I have been an administrative assistant in the financial planning industry. It has been almost a year now since I have been retired.

Since Guy & I are both retired, we love to travel especially in our motorhome. Our biggest adventure so far was taking an RV trip across the U.S.A. last year for 8 ½ weeks. We also love to be outdoors hiking, fishing, watching wildlife as well as spending time with family and friends. I am very involved in church activities and bible study. I also enjoy making crafts and pleasure reading. I am truly blessed.
